In this interactive online workshop, you will get pragmatic advice on how to become a professor in science. We will address the open secrets of academia that nobody tells you!

- How to dramatically increase your chances of becoming a professor.
- How to qualify yourself as an attractive candidate for professor positions.
- How to position yourself well and how to convince a selection committee that you are a promising candidate.
- Whether you want to pay the price (a lot of effort, time, and money) to become a professor.
Target group
PhD candidates, postdocs, and staff scientists - especially in the life sciences and similar domains such as biology, biomedical sciences, and medicine.
Aims
The main aim of the workshop is to provide a pragmatic strategy on how to pursue an academic career. The participants will define a research field they care about and identify those activities that make them attractive as candidates for professor positions.
Result
The participants will get reliable and honest advice on how to pursue a successful academic career.
They will learn how to define their current and future academic niche and how to position themselves as experts in their field. They will learn how to pursue their academic career successfully by focusing on those aspects that build ‘career capital’ and make their CVs attractive for selection committees. They will identify the activities they should stop doing to avoid wasting their time and energy. Finally, they will critically analyze whether their chosen career path and the expected rewards are worth the effort according to their values.
Methods
In several interactive sessions the participants will define their scientific niche and develop a roadmap for becoming a professor.
Fees
The total cost of this training will be reimbursed from the budget which was allocated by the Staff Career Centre for the YUFE alliance. This implies that your participation is free of charge.
